About us

Who I Am:

Hello! I’m Dr. Maria Mutitu, the founder and owner of Mutitu Cultural Literacy Insights. I’ve been fortunate to live and work in incredible places around the globe and experience firsthand some of the beautiful diversity this world has to offer.

I’ve always been driven by a deep desire to be of service to others, beginning with my career as an ESL teacher, and extending into my current teaching and scholarship as an Assistant Professor at Woosong University.

Among other subjects, I have immersed myself in topics of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) and am a tenacious advocate for justice and marginalized populations.

About us

What I Do:

No one is the same as anyone else—we differ culturally, geographically, personally, and educationally—just to name a few! We are all unique, so it’s normal that we are all different. The weaving together of diverse experiences, cultures, and talents is a defining character of the modern workforce. Knowing how to acknowledge and embrace difference makes work a safe, productive space where everyone can thrive, both personally and organizationally.

As a Ph.D. and professor, I teach and perform research on DEIB, language acquisition, race and racial trauma, the teacher’s role in cultural integration, and cross-cultural communication approaches. I design curricula and educate around issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; helping to inspire cultural change within academic institutions and beyond.

Because I’m experienced in both business and academic settings, and because I understand the point of view of both the educator and the administrator, the worker and the business owner, I am uniquely well-positioned to develop, plan, and implement DEIB programming to fit your organization.
